nimbus was born out of the fascination of seeing shapes in clouds, and owes its name to the Latin word for a luminous, amorphous, rain cloud.

 

The dance serves as a metaphor for the swirl and condensation of expectation and desire, playing a game of light and shadow with a distant beloved. This gives way to loss and despair as the elusive cloud shape-shifts and washes away. Finally comes the realisation that fulfilment and joy can only be sought within. 

The original score - composed, played and recorded by the multi-skilled Osama Abdulrasol - transforms from dark and ominous to urgent and buoyant, swelling and crashing in counterpart to the dance. 

nimbus first showed as a dance film in 2021 at the Sangam Festival, Melbourne. This presentation at Indialogue 2023 marks its live premiere.

nimbus is een ode aan de verwondering over de vormen van wolkenvelden, en dankt haar naam aan het Latijnse woord voor een lichtgevende, amorfe regenwolk. 

De dans dient als metafoor voor het wervelen en verdichten van verwachting en verlangen, als een spel van licht en schaduw met een verre geliefde. De ongrijpbare wolk verandert voortdurend en verdwijnt in het niets, wat plaats maakt voor een gevoel van verlies en wanhoop. Uiteindelijk groeit een besef dat voldoening en vreugde enkel binnenin vindbaar zijn.

Osama Abdulrasol componeerde voor deze voorstelling een partituur die transformeert van donker en onheilspellend naar urgent en levendig, aanzwellend en neerstortend, een vorm die dient als tegenhanger van de dans.

nimbus werd voor het eerst vertoond als dansfilm in 2021 op het Sangam Festival in Melbourne. Deze presentatie op Indialogue 2023 markeert de live première.
